Hello,

I would like to see a way to assign an event under a user defined group. So say, I am going to a conference, I can choose to assign a conference to last Monday through Friday (or maybe just have a 'Group' to assign things to, no date necessarily), then, I can say what events occur on Monday that are a part of that group.

You can do this in lots of ways now. You can use taxonomy and give your events categories, the add a filter to your calendar view to limit the view to the category you want to see. You can use CCK and create a 'event group' field, then assign events to the right group and add a filter to the calendar view to show the group you want.
