Now, only nid is sent because the currently used statistics backend only handles that. Since we 1/ might support other statistics backend 2/ are using JS to send data, I think we have good reason to send more data, like: User agent, Referer, screen resolution etc.

I have already started work on alternative backends in #1446932: Improve statistics performance by adding a swappable backend

Interested in sending more data to the backend and it should be quite easy with little / no performance impact.

I think we have good reason to send more data, like: User agent, Referer, screen resolution etc.

That's quickly going to end up to be a lot of data. Storage concerns are just one part though (you could send more, but the default storage backend could store only counts, for example.)

Another part is privacy. User agent and screen resolution can potentially be used for fingerprinting.

Referer seems fine, because it allows you to track sources of traffic.

Based on the patch in #86089: Improve statistics for multidomain sites, it looks like the Statistics module used to support referers… that's interesting, isn't it?

It was the access log part of the statistics module which used to store referrer and many other things. I like the idea of sending the information, then it's up to the backend to decide if it stores it or not.

Statistics is approved for removal. See #3266457: [Policy] Deprecate Statistics module in D10 and move to contrib in D11

This is now Postponed. The status is set according to two policies. The Remove a core extension and move it to a contributed project and the Extensions approved for removal policies.

It will be moved to a contributed Statistics project once the project is created and the Drupal 11 branch is open.
