Currently, when one would want to refresh just the main content area of a page in some AJAXy module, it's not possible because you can't know where to insert the new content.
This adds a wrapper div with id="main-content" around the output of the $content variable in all core themes.
If committed, I'll add a paragraph to the theming docs that all themes are advised to do so too to not break compatibility with modules that are going to make use of $('#main-content').
