Problem/Motivation
Leading Drupal distributions including Open Atrium and Drupal Commons provide group-based functionality. In Drupal 6, the architecture of these distros varied substantially enough to make prohibitive the task of building shared features. As these distros are redesigned for Drupal 7, it would be a key step forward if at least some minimal bases for interoperability were defined and included in the base architecture of the distros.
Candidate criteria to include in such interoperability specifications
- Entity type (e.g., node) and bundle name (e.g., group) of group-type content.
- Profile solution, e.g., profile2, and name of profile bundle.
- A specified subset of global Og role names. (Features integration pending, see #1349754: features integration for organic groups permissions and roles.)
Proposed resolution
Define a Groups Kit feature specification extension. Related issue: #1512846: Commons position on Open App Standard.
