Seems simple but I can't work it out. I have done this in D6 but new to D7 and it all seems soooo different... I would like a full width page background image behind the main content. Site is not published yet. Thanks

I usually prefer subtheming rather than editing the main theme, and this is how I set a full size background image in my Corolla subtheme.
Just add this lines to your theme css file.

body {
  background-image: url('../images/background.jpg') !important;
  background-size: cover;
  background-repeat: no-repeat;

background-image: the URL must be relative to the CSS file folder.
background-size: read this article for available property options.

Many thanks Norberto for this information. I was stuck on this because all the other advise I saw on the web left out the !important part, so that it did not override Corolla's settings. You are the best!
