Given the increase in node types being used in a variety of ways, it would be good to be able to control whether or not the node provides a page view. Often you want to use a content type to make it easy for a user to add items to a list etc., but these list items dont need a page view - they simply need to be used as a view.
My suggestion would be to add a checkbox "provides page view' to the content type setup page. This would control the provision of a page view and also the indexing in the search engine (no page view means that it would not show up in a site search.
Cheers

yched CreditAttribution: yched commentedSee http://drupal.org/node/111744 for a patch allowing content types to be excluded from search index. This needs reviews, so that it get can considered before code freeze.
