7.x-3.x should be considered feature frozen as of June 18th. This has been updated from the original feature freeze of May 15th because some amazing ideas where proposed such as the mobile regions feature, configurable paths for generated files and a nudge in the back to HTML5ify taxonomy-term.tpl.php.

7.x-3.0-rc3 is now released. The focus will now shift to updating all available sub-themes including all the commercial themes. I am aiming to have this work completed ASAP, so we can move to a stable release of the core theme and all subthemes.

Things are shaping up very well and I should be rolling the RC in the next day or two, depending on a couple of small tasks that I would like to take care of:

- abstract Admin Theme responsive styles to the new responsive stylesheets
- pre release dev versions of all existing free sub-themes, so users have something serious to plug and play with, AT Commerce and Corolla already have releases, so just Sky and Pixture Reloaded to push up and cut release nodes.

Right now there is nothing actually blocking an RC, but getting these few things out of the way would be nice.

I currently have a feature request (my own) to add a couple of new layout options for Panel displays, this I am still considering, it will happen, and possibly before RC if I am fast, although I can't let this block RC, we need to get on with it.

The past few weeks have been really great with many excellent suggestions, feature requests and bug reports rolling in and we've fixed many small irritations and improved the theme again. Speed wise reports are very positive with most users commenting on the performance of the theme being noticeably faster than previous versions and other base themes - this bodes very well and great to hear, since much effort has gone into performance optimization.

Getting close!

Just wondering if there'll be another rc before stable?

Keep the amazing work Jeff!

Jeff Burnz’s picture

I think there should be, even if it just runs for a week or less, reason is there are changes to how some things work, and while I did't really add anything, I took some things away, or rather I automated some things. I think I will cut a new RC today, probably later today, i wanted a stable release yesterday (literally) but I think we need to run an RC for a few days and then go for it. I REALLY want to get this beast released!

Great, thanks for the update. Look forward to the new rc.

Morning Jeff,

Was just wondering if there is anything I should look out for when going from RC1 to RC2. I've replaced adaptivetheme, but I am currently working on a sub theme based off the at_subtheme from RC1. I've replaced the .info file in my sub theme to include any new variables and added my mods back. Any css files or anything like that between RC1 and RC2 at_subtheme that I should worry about?

Loving this 3.x version lots!

Jeff Burnz’s picture

I think the only file you need to watch out for is the responsive.cascade.css file which has changed to responsive.custom.css in RC2. Other than that its just a matter of clearing all caches, probably do a theme settings save and that should be it.

Over in #1315686-10: limit block by media query you hinted that 3.0 would be out soon, so no more rc's?

We're running rc2 on a couple production sites (with a couple patches that have made it into -dev) and all is well. Looking forward to the stable release.

Jeff Burnz’s picture

Yep, its gonna be real soon. I need to run one more set of tests on a clean install and do a few tweaks to some of the subthemes and then its released - certainly this week, fingers crossed.

When it comes out be sure to read the release notes.

fenstrat’s picture

Great, thanks for the update Jeff.

One thing, with your release notes you provide loads of detail, which is great. But could you also include a link to each issue in the release (if there is one)? Call me traditional, but an easy reference to the full issue is very handy should more detail be needed.

fenstrat’s picture

Would a rc3 be a good idea? There's been quite a few significant changes since rc2. Could be a better move than going straight to 3.0?

Jeff Burnz’s picture

RC3 seems like sensible move at the moment, good suggestion, lets do that, probably later today once I get some work out of the way.

Any news on the final release date?

Thank you very much for your work.

Jeff Burnz’s picture

Kind on in the last strait now, I have been discussing the structure of the CSS and SCSS files for the past couple of weeks and have decided to make a change - this won't affect people who have made a subtheme already as there is no need to change what you already have, and no major CSS changes in the base theme.

I need to test some final changes tonight.

Any news on the release date?

I've got a new site ready to go live and it would be good to have the latest code on before this. If it's in the next day or so I'll hang on, if next week or later, I'll go now.

Thanks a lot for any info and all the hard graft you put into this project!

Any update on a release date?

Jeff Burnz’s picture

Its coming its coming :)

I just found some CSS bugs in the Admin theme and need to clean them up and commit, then I really think we are good to go.

Sounds good, Jeff! Thanks for the update :)
