Instead of IRC that is old way to chatting with people should be replaced with Google Plus that is easy to use by country/Language.

Just because something is old doesn't mean it's bad. IRC is still very much alive and kicking.

If someone really needs to use the web to chat, there are various web->IRC gateways.

What do you mean by 'boring'
IRC is just a a way of communicating with people who share common goals & interest.
Sure it's been around for a long while but it's still pretty efficient in serving its purpose

It's like you are saying : Blue jeans are old and boring.
Would you stop wearing them and switch for some shiny new plastic trousers ? I don't think so
