How do I embed colorbox in a gallery node?

Greetings,

I have a gallery content type with multiple images. When I view a node generated by this content type I see a long vertical column of photos. If I click a photo the colorbox overlay is activated. But I would like a better looking node page where the colorbox is visible with the images contained within and not scattered all over the page. I can not figure out how to get the colorbox embedded within the node. I would be grateful for any help. Many thanks. Kevin
