Now that #911054: Remove Garland from Core is implemented for D8, I understand that we need a 8.x branch in order to have our favorite theme. What I don't get is the purpose of having a 7.x branch. Shed some light please. Thanx in advance.

I'm afraid I don't. I simply went through the issue queue and saw an issue filed under 7.x: #1437390: Changing top links. That's why I asked in the first place.

I've updated the 7.x-1.x release node to say it's no longer being worked on.

(Should someone want to work on this, and be prepared to fix issues on D8 first and back port, please request co-maintainership :)
