We are glad to announce the first stable release of Cartaro. This version includes minor bug fixes and improvements, because our focus was on stability. Please have a look at the previous release notes for details about recent changes. The upcoming minor releases will bring additional features to Cartaro, so stay tuned and build great spatial websites with Cartaro 1.0 in the meantime.
Cartaro beta6 is a bugfix and security release, but doesn't include any new features. This release includes updates to the CTools, Features, GeoServer and OpenLayers module. Also Drupal core has been updated to version 7.22. See specific project release notes for details.
Within the current release work has focused on the development of several new features that are crucial for the usability of Cartaro for professional and routine geodata management and visualization tasks.
The following are the most important improvements in this context:
Better handling of projections
Importer for large datasets
Integrated querying and filtering of geodata
The new Cartaro release includes updates to the OpenLayers module that bring projection handling into the module. While projections are absolutely common for specialized GIS software, Cartaro missed this feature and you could only use maps with the Google Mercator or WGS 84 projections. Now you are able to define your OpenLayers maps in any projection you need. The new feature motivated us to also update the Cartaro demo and implement a map in the Swiss reference system and with amazing background maps from the Swiss Federal Office for Topography.
The second beta of Cartaro has been released and includes some interesting new features.
An assistant makes it easier to add new map layers to Cartaro. This is
accomplished by a module extending the OpenLayers module. The assistant
can filter different layer types based on user selectable and easily
understandable criteria.
We are happy to announce the first beta of Cartaro. Since the first release half a year ago we have been working heavily on bug fixes and new functionality.
With the current release the API for Cartaro 1.x has been stabilized, so Cartaro is ready to be used as a building block for new projects. This also marks the starting point of an upgrade path for Cartaro, meaning that in the future you will be able to upgrade your installation without much hazzle.
This is a development snapshot release for the 1.x series. This is not stable, and production sites should not run this code. However, users wishing to help test and develop the next version of Cartaro are encouraged to use this for test sites.
