Need some direction

Hi there, first, thank you for writing this module. I am building a compreshensive drupal 7 system with a bunch of custom modules, My project has been around a long time as a drupal 6 project and I am rewriting it from the ground up and trying to make it a project on drupal.org,

The sandbox code is not up to date, as I am now hosting and developing this on the drupal cloud system known as pantheon.
Anyhow, the D6 version relied heavily on node reference fileds, and in my reading about D7 development, it has been suggested more than once that rather than using the interim references module to solve my needs, that I should consider this module and the entity api.

So, I have downloaded and installed both the api and this module but dont know where to start when writing my code, to create my custom content types with fields that use this module. THe read me did not contain any guidance, and so I am asking for a pointer to help me get rolling, I can use whatever code you can point me to to figure it out, but of course any docs you may have would also be helpful.
