Fields show up empty/blank if field translation is turned on after field has content

Although this has been reported as part of another bug, it is difficult finding that issue due to its title. This title is more direct as to what the user might experience rather than what needs to be fixed. It will be marked as duplicate.

Problem

If you have content already and turn on translation for a field, then when you go back to edit your content, the field is empty/blank. Strangely enough, the content is still somewhere because it shows up when you view the page.

Solution

The issue #1279372: Enable bulk field language updates when switching field translatability is dealing with this problem.
