The leaf book page at the bottom of the book tree does not have child page,

However, there is always a close/open branches arrow attached to it.

See attached, as marked with red rect.

hmm... does this happen in other themes?

Does this happen ALWAYS to the last item or does this happen to the last item once you remove children from it?

Does this happen on initial page render or just while working with the content outline? (meaning does reloading the page get rid of it?)

Yes, at least for garland, and acquia marina

Page reloading does not help
