When the "Conditional Fields" module is used together with the"CCK Required Single Select" module (with the essential patch from #1281304: Error class not set applied), the following problem may arise:

A controlled required single select field (B) is always set as required, even if it is not triggered by the controlling field (A) and it is correctly hidden by JavaScript.

Sorry, won't fix an issue with a module marked as obsolete.
(but recent changes in the required fields logic might have solved it)
