Simpletest does not return results when Overlay is enabled

If I run a test while the Overlay is enabled, the batch progress bar appears and the test appears to be running, but when the batch finishes the test results flash up briefly on the overlay (with broken theming) and then the overlay disappears. I'm only left with a status message indicating how long the test took to run. I would expect the test results to appear in the Overlay.
