Akismet module for Drupal 5.1 (with the trackback module installed and active) doesn't seem to have the ability to scan trackbacks submitted, which is one of the most abused spammer targets

I am running Drupal 5.1 with Akismet module 1.10 and trackback module 1.64.2.5

+1 on this request. I had to turn off trackbacks because I was getting completely deluged.

i'm working on a hacked up version of the trackback module that does things slightly differently... one of the things i'm still fighting with is akismet integration. more updates soon :)

Yeah, desperately need this as well. The trackbacks are getting insane. I added 700 IP address denies to my .htaccess yesterday, and already I have a whole page of new trackback spam. I'm really hoping Akismet can put an end to this, because the Spam module just isn't cutting it.

Yes, same here. It was heaven using akismet for trackbacks in 4.7. I upgraded, and I'm now inundated.

I just changed the priority on this to critical. Those of us who were using trackbacks with akismet before the upgrade to 5.x, would all agree, I think, that this is perhaps the most important function of akismet.

I do feel, however, even after a year of using drupal and this site, still a little uncertain of etiquette in these matters. So if this was rude in any way I apologize.

According to http://drupal.org/node/105619 there is a hook_trackback function which would allow akismet to filter trackbacks.

I'm not a programmer, but from the comments there, it looks like it would be an easy (? :) ) patch to make akismet filter trackbacks in 5.x and 6.x (no point in 4.x, since trackback has a patch which does this for that version, but, according to the thread I cited above, it appears that the writer of that patch is not around anymore, and that the more elegant solution would be to work from the akismet end.)

Anyone who is a programmer interested in trying?

Version: 5.x-1.2 » 5.x-1.x-dev

Marked #249388: Are there any plans for Akismet module to support trackback? as a duplicate. Also bumping version to be against -dev.

+1 big time. I get more trackback spam than I get visitors in a day!

This issue was mentioned over a year ago. Is something going to be done with it, or should I dump Akismet? I have CAPTCHA installed, so don't need Akismet to help with comment spam, with CAPTCHA, Akismet is only useful for trackback spam.

Thanks,

Jason

Yes, it would seem that this feature is critical, not only to those of us who are calling for it, but also to the future of the akismet module.

There's really no other absolute need for the module.

Another vote for trackback support. Surprized it doesn't work like it has always done with WordPress.

I'm surprised that over a year in both the Akismet AND Trackback modules that nothing has been written.

If I could understand the trackback code a bit better I would write a quick patch but I'm having a little trouble.

I am closing this issue, since it's for a Drupal version not supported.
