How to use tpl to print cck fields on node?

Hello, perhaps I have missed something in the readme or while searching the queue, but I just cant seem to get my tpl to work; note- I am not interested in using panels.

My content profile machine name is resume, and I want to theme the node output for the actual node (just as with any other node-yadda.tpl.php). I have some cck fields added to my content type, for example field_fname. First I tried node-resume.tpl.php and printing the fields as usual with no luck. I also tried user-profile.tpl.php with no luck either. I flushed cache and also manually went to the themes page. Perhaps user-profile-resume.tpl.php would work?

Have I missed something? Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
