This release fixes a few problems discovered in the 1.16 release. Notably the breakage of the CSS exclusion option. It also rolls back a change introduced in 1.16 regarding opening links in new windows.
This release of External Links fixes several bugs, adds a few minor features, and most notably adds support for jQuery 1.9 and higher.
There were a few releases of the Drupal 6 branch causing the version numbers to go out of sync. Consequently, this release is 1.16, even though the last version was 1.13. There is no 1.14 or 1.15 release for Drupal 7.
This version of External Links provides several new features and changes the way icons are placed on the page. Note this update may require you to update your CSS if you have added custom CSS that affects the "ext" or "mailto" classes. See #132614: strange graphic placement when link wraps line for the details of this change.

An update to the very broken 1.2 release. In my testing, I had been using the 1.1 version of jQuery. The rewrite used a method introduced in this newer version of jQuery which was not available in the jQuery version Drupal ships with. This new version should work in every version of jQuery.
This version of extlink.module handles itself much better in IE7 and supports better external link recognition.
Bug fixes:
- IE7 no longer chokes if it encounters a malformed anchor tag
- https links now properly considered internal if they're at the same domain.
New features:
- A new checkbox has been added to the settings page which lets subdomains be considered 'internal'.
This version of External Links is a maintenance release to more accurately find and enhance external links.
- Both http and https protocols are now supported and considered internal under the same domain name.
- More accurate selectors for finding external links.
- External links which contain an image do not display the external link icon.
