We now have BUEditor on drupal.org: #424400: Use BUEditor on drupal.org Having it on g.d.o as well would be great!
In discussion on IRC, greggles would prefer using markdown instead of HTML. That can be done by using Markdown Editor for BUEditor. Then we can have the same buttons but the markup produced would be site specific.

cweagansFWIW, Markdown++
I think it'd be a good idea to get BUEditor running on D.o, but I think a higher priority would be to get the theme switched to be consistent with the rest of the d.o sites.

gddWhat is the advantage of markdown over HTML? Ideally this would be consistent across all the *.d.o sites, and I'd really like to see a good argument in favor of making it different. As someone who uses both extensively, I know I'd like to see them be consistent.

MichelleMy personal feeling is that the BUEditor bar should do HTML while Markdown should also be accepted. On both sites. For some things, especially bold and italic, typing the Markdown as you go along is easier than grabbing the mouse and clicking a button. For larger things like lists, the button is helpful. If you are clicking a button to get your results, do you really care so much if it's HTML or Markdown? Seems to me that the advantage of Markdown is the fact that you don't need to use the mouse for it.
But, whatever works. :) I just really would like to have BUEditor on g.d.o no matter what sort of markup it spits out.
