I installled Category module, it works fine, but it seems to me that it messed up user access rights... Nor guests or authenticated users cannot access this stuff from this module.... Actually the whole site became useless for guests and regular users after I installed this module... and I don't see anything specific about this in "access rights" admin.

Any thoughts?

You probably enabled cac_lite module included with Category

I had this exact same problem. The category access control module will deny access unless you tell it not to.

1. turn off "Category access control lite" module
2. give all right to "category module" items to anonymous user
3. remove these rights

module starts to work fine!
