AFAIK, I do not see any table added width value in Drupal core. But it's worth to do so and I try to break the rules :)
see attached images, it is content manage page. after adding width value, more charming I think.
TITLE is the important column at this section, should be the large one.
AUTHOR and other column should not take a lot of space.
