Hello,

At the moment, Views Slideshow Cycle only provides text label controls to slideshows. It would be great to have these controls skinnable, and maybe also options (such as choose labels when using text controls, or hiding pause button).
That's what provides my Views Slideshow Configurable Controls (VSCC) sandboxed module.
If it gets good feedback, I could work on a patch on Views Slideshow Cycle to replace basic text controls by those enhanced controls.

Regards,

David

Here is the start of a module I was creating. Not sure of it's state, but it may give you an idea on how it can be done.

http://drupal.org/sandbox/redndahead/1186662

Tell me how it goes.

My module is already finished and it works. ;)

But the issue here is me asking a new feature inside Views Slideshow.
I'm asking to add to views slideshow configurable controls. My finished-but-sandboxed module is ready to be tested, and if it is approved by Views Slideshow maintainers, I'll make a patch to Views Slideshow, to integrate it, in place of basic text controls.

Hi, Would love to see this also on D6, David are you willing also making it for D6?
Greetings, Martijn

Sorry I didn't get back to this, but I don't plan to add any additional slideshows or controls in core. I want them as separate contrib modules.

@Summit hopefully David can release it as a module on d.o.

Hello,
I promoted my sandbox to a normal project. I'm sorry but I won't backport it to Drupal 6, I have no time for that.

David

Nice work David! How can I download your module - it is not available on the projects page - I guess it's still awaiting approval?

Sorry, I just created a release now. Please wait for a few hours.
Redndahead, cound you please add my module to the related list please?

Regards,
David

This needs to be included in views slideshow by default. Graphics over text on a slideshow is nearly always used.

Please include http://drupal.org/project/vscc into the next version of views slideshow. :)

Thank you

I would like to request that this module be placed into the views slideshow project by default. The reasons below are why I feel it makes sense as to why it would improve views slideshow.

1) I wasted considerable time hacking the mod to replace the wording with images. Many other users have done the same. http://chrisshattuck.com/blog/how-use-images-next-and-previous-buttons-v.... If there is no other option to text, why is there a drop down menu in the backend?

2) The demand I believe is there. I opened this: http://drupal.org/node/1468130

3) Very few if any sliders use text controls as they look poor compared to image. Below is a basic list of the mods which use either

Image controls:

easyslider, galleria, nivo slider, coinslider, aviaslider, tn3gallery, wowslider etc etc

Text controls:

anything slider has "stop" text button with image previous, next buttons.

Virtually every image slider has image controls and to not include this by default in the project makes no sense to me. Can we please add http://drupal.org/project/vscc to the dev version of views slideshow asap - as forcing users to download a seperate mod and install is just a waste of time - many users might not also find the project.

Thanks for the consideration.

@redndahead I would agree with @kingfisher64 that there's probably not a good use case for text pagers in a module where people have taken the initiative to select a jQuery powered view.

However, I can see where you're coming from with the desire to keep it in contrib.

Would a happy medium be to instead add it on the Views Slideshow project page under Views Slideshow Installation and Configuration and/or Related Modules?

<food analogy>

First, there was bread. Bread was great. Bread revolutionized what and how we eat. Create any kind of sandwich you can imagine! No fork needed! Views is bread.

Second, someone added peanut butter to the bread, and peanut butter sandwiches were born. It really complimented the bread well, and people were happy. Views Slideshow is peanut butter.

Third, there came jelly. Oh boy, how that sweet jelly compliments the saltiness of the peanut butter. So good. VSCC is jelly.

Now, once you've had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you're probably not going to want to have just a peanut butter sandwich again.

However, peanut butter companies don't want to include jelly in their peanut butter (there are a few out there who are attempting to do this, but they're kind of 'meh'), so what is a sandwich developer to do?

Stores know about this dilemma, so after exhaustive market research, where do you find the jelly? Next to the peanut butter! Yes, it is widely accepted as a complementary combination. D.o's project pages are stores.

It would help this store to put the sign indicating that there is jelly next to your peanut butter. The jelly has already put a sign up on his end to reciprocate.

</food analogy>

You down?

<food analogy>

If say 90% of the public requested that peanut butter come with jelly from now on rather than them having to buy both and make the sandwich themselves - wasting time, I think that would be very handy!

Further more let's say peanut butter has been coming with almonds (text controls) for quite some time now - very few people wanted almonds so everytime they bought the butter, then painstakingly went though removing the almonds and replacing them with jelly instead. Every other brand came with jelly (sliders) and it was widely accepted that this was the best - but for some strange reason they were not listened too?

Would it make sense to continue to put almonds in the butter? (Can't believe I've spent time doing this!)

</food analogy>

Not for me :)

been pretty quiet for 5 years. If still interest in merging, I'll look into it but since it's been quiet, I'm going to follow R's lead on this for 7.x
