I am using Drupal Commons 6.1.7. I am unable to have Drupal show that I have updated gtranslate to the latest version 6.1.7. I do the following:

1. Put the site in maintenance mode.
2. Unpack the contents of the gtranslate-6.x-1.7.tar.gz file to the gtranslate module file folder on my server (overwriting)
3. Run update.php from the modules menu item in the admin menu. Update shows no issues and there are no log entries.
4. When I go the "Available Updates" section of the admin menu it still shows GTranslate 6.x-1.6 and that there is a later version 6.1.7) available for download.

I tried also running CRON but with no effect or change noted.

As fate would have it I found and resolved the issue a few minutes after I entered this issue here. There is nothing wrong with this version of gtranslate and the problem turned out to be a simple one of my own creation. My apologies.
