I was able to make a multiselect field (Multiselect 7.x-1.8 http://drupal.org/project/multiselect) visible/invisible based on a value from a select list dependee. However, if the multiselect field is hidden since it did not meet the required value from the dependee, I get an error stating that the multiselect field is required.

In this case, I set the multiselect field to be "required" so that it has to be filled in/selected when visible.

Will be using the Hierarchical Select module instead - hopefully the same issue will not arise.
