In 960.css

.container-12 .grid-3,
.container-16 .grid-4 {
  width: 220px;

.container-12 .grid-4 {
  width: 300px;

So if the html layout is like this:

<div class="container-12">
    <div class="container-16">
        <div id="foobar" class="grid-4">

foobar will end up having a width of 300px (instead of 220px as it should be) because of CSS specificity.

Containers are NEVER nested. Only grids may be. Works as designed.
