I'm in the process of switching my site from SMF forum with an Enigma portal over to Drupal with a bridge to SMF. One of the core features of my site, which supports an opensource project, is the hosting of third party modules - about 1,000 of them at this point. I need to setup a system which allows me to:

- Group modules/files by application
- Sort by module author, module name
- Provide descriptions of module and number of downloads
- Provide version compatibility information
- Allow registered users to upload files in a format that permits them to be moved into the filesharing area after admin approval
- Create as simple a download URL for the file as possible

I've been going over the Taxonomy structure (still struggling with it!) and looked at a few of the additional modules so far, but I'm still a long way from being able to setup the hosting the way I'd like.

Which modules would be recommended to achieve a setup close to what I'm after, and does anyone have any other advice I should consider while I'm configuring this system?

You can see my current (less than satisfactory) setup at http://dragonprime.net
If the site is slow to load, or generates a server error, just try a little later...that's the reason why I'm switching applications!

Thanks

You may want to look into the project.module which is how drupal handles its contrib module releases. This could be used in to distribute downloads.

There is also the web file manager or webfm.module

Thanks; I should have mentioned that project.module is one of the primary ones I'm looking at. It seems to be what's used by drupal.org for the downloads section here.

A lot of that can be done with CCK and Views

BTW, did you used to play Netropolis?

I skipped over views during my module browsing - I'll go back and have another look at what it offers.

No, I've never played Netropolis...assorted other games, but not using this nick except in Green Dragon.
