Whenever I switch to a theme other than Garland, the left sidebar disappears. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

What blocks are on the left side, when Garland is your theme ? Is there a search box there ?

Just the menu (content, forums, my account, administer, and Logout). I just d/led Bluebreeze and that appears to work fine also.
