Add message system

We need a way for modules to inform the user about changes that will be made, especially when doing things like altering the field types. We displayed a few messages after the migration but we need this earlier, we need the user to see for each field what changes might be made *before* it is migrated.

I'm implementing a system to do that. This issue is just to document this.
