Am I missing something really obvious here?
The only content-types CKEditor appear to support are FULL HTML and FILTERED HTML. - it won't suport my new 'FILTEREF WITH IMAGE' type - although it has the same settings as FILTERED (but with added in to the 'filter' list.
Documentation and google aren't even getting close to helping me, and I seem to be circling in an ever decreasing radius around the wrong things :(
any help VERY much appreciated, and any info needed avail on request.
much loving Drupal though, thanks guys (AND CKEditor!!!),
thanks for time so far,
marsh :)

seems like posting to Forums is a part of the process! :D --- 2 hours of heaad banging until I entered the community with the question and the answere just appeared.
Oh the omnipresence of it all :D
It appears that inside Configure>CKEditor>Profiles CKEditor needs the new content to be given it's place in the grand scheme of things.
To fix this problem (if you have it) you can either create a new profile for it, or (as I found easiest) go to the 'FILTERED HTML' profile and enamble your new content-type in it's tickbox.
Elegance in Simplicity (yeah - using mint ;)
Thanks people - hope this is useful,
M. :D
