I need to apply a custom background to some regions of my design, but the existing horizontal margin between regions, make background spaces between them. I need them contiguous. Anyway to replace all these margins with padding instead ?
Or any other css tricks to achieve this.

Could the "effect" of the background be placed on the zone wrapper (grid with the container-xx class) instead??

There could be a LOT of possibilities of how to work around what you're trying to accomplish.

If you can post a screenshot of what you are trying to accomplish, I can definitely give more advice, but I understand if it's "secret" and you don't want to post here.

Thanks for your help. I sent you a private message with a link to a screenshot, the website is not online so I can't provide a web access to the design. Because my blocks in the sidebar have different background I can't use a false background in the sidebar.

I have a similar issue with needing to reduce the size of the horizontal margins between blocks. The site is online at http://www.upstreampumping.com. I just launched it and I'm trying to tweak the design to get it "tighter" and "smaller". Love those vague feedbacks! LOL Attached is the PDF of the designer's look so you can see how the site blocks need to be closer together.

How/where do you change the horizontal margin size?

Looks you found another solution.

You could just be specific with your regions...

.grid-3.region-sidebar-first {min-height: 500px; background:#D4DDB2;opacity: .7; margin-right: 0 !important;
padding-right: 20px !important;}
.grid-6.region-content{min-height: 500px; background:#ffffff; margin-left: 0 !important; margin-right:0 !important; padding-left: 10px !important; padding-right: 10px !important;}
.region-sidebar-second{min-height: 500px; background:#F4F2E5;opacity: .7;margin-left: 0 !important;}
