I've asked for this in the forums, but there was no answer. The only way I've found is patching node.module.

And for continuity for this issue, it was inspired originally by the functionality chx proposes for core in tis issue. "This module is similar in purpose and function to the "Edit As New" module that was available for Drupal 4.5."
This module has had a large following in 4.7.x, 5.x, 6.x, and 7.x - maybe time for core as part of an improved authoring experience?

There is no UI for duplicating an entity is there?
