Just wondering if we are going to see the module ported, as I have used the said module in my current 4.7.3 version site, and having seen that it is not listed in the maintainers list made me think how I could upgrade to version 5.x in the future.

Flexinode is not listed, but parts of CCK are in core, so hopefully the maintainers will provide an upgrade path at the least.
Note that it doesn't look as though there is much active development: http://drupal.org/project/cvs/5737

Flexinode was an experiment ( if I can say).. Better use CCK
Flexinode has its good sides too
Never tell anybody to "better use CCK2 without knowing the ins- and outs of that persons plans!
I wrote a better comparison on the two node modules on my weblog.
