Title: Just added 7.x-2.x-dev 2011-Jan-23 » Errors in latest dev build (Jan 23)

Was this from an upgrade from a previous version, or a clean install (ie. drupal + advance forum install?)

Not sure if there's an upgrade path being supported currently...considering it's still dev.

I'm about to do a fresh install and jump into the latest version will get back to here with results.

Greetings,
Another rookie mistake I made. I did not unchecked af to see if I was still getting them. Sorry.

gvc’s picture

This error occurs on clicking the Forums link of Advanced Forums, it's on the latest Dev version.

Notice: Undefined variable: forum_term in forum_forum_load() (line 764 of /var/www/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in forum_forum_load() (line 764 of /var/www/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$tid in forum_forum_load() (line 769 of /var/www/modules/forum/forum.module).

troky’s picture

Looks like core forum issue to me. I saw that before but can't remember how to reproduce it.

DeweyOxberger’s picture

I have a setup that reproduces some of these errors. It doesn't use AF at all. It appears to be an issue that pops up when you have a View that replaces forum/%.

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in forum_menu_local_tasks_alter() (line 170 blah... forum.module

troky - have you created an issue for this? (It could be a forum or views issue, I'm not smart enough to know which).

troky’s picture

Nope... I can't open an issue if I can't reproduce this error(s).

SolitaryGround’s picture

I got the same errors as DigOurGame using Advanced Forum with Drupal 7, fresh installation.

There were no errors untill I added content and changed the theme to naked. It seems not able to load any forum subjects. I can't access my forum subjects through the forum when using Advanced Forum.
I tried to switch back to blue lagoon, I still got the same errors.

After a few minutes I decided to disable AF because of the errors. Later I put the module back with Blue Lagoon and there were no errors.

I tried to reproduce the errors by doing the same actions related to Advanced Forum again, no errors occured.
The only action I didn't reproduce is trying to translate forum parts.

It looks like disabling and enabling Advanced Forum works for now.

alpritt’s picture

Steps to reproduce #6:

- Clean Drupal 7 download (minimal profile)
- Enable core forum module
- Go to example.com/forum/0

I get the following notices at this point:

Notice: Undefined variable: forum_term in forum_forum_load() (line 764 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in forum_forum_load() (line 764 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$tid in forum_forum_load() (line 769 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$tid in forum_page() (line 28 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.pages.inc).
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$tid in forum_menu_local_tasks_alter() (line 170 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$tid in forum_menu_local_tasks_alter() (line 185 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.module).

So that part is obviously the fault of the core forum module as mentioned above. But let's see what advanced forum does when enabled:

- Enable advanced forum
- Go to example.com/forum/0

I get the following notices:

Notice: Undefined variable: forum_term in forum_forum_load() (line 764 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in forum_forum_load() (line 764 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$tid in forum_forum_load() (line 769 of /Users/alanpritt/Sites/htdocs/advanced_forum/modules/forum/forum.module).

So enabling advanced forum actually gets rid of some notices.

The negative is that Advanced Forum creates a link to that notice ridden and useless /forum/0 page on the /forum page. It is using the 'forum' vocabulary itself as as a container, when no containers (i.e. terms within the forum vocabulary) have yet been set. If you DO add a container, the fake container disappears. Moreover it takes the rather unfriendly description of the 'forum' vocabulary ('Forum navigation vocabulary') and presents it as a description of the forums to the end user.

For my purposes I'm going to just override the template and remove the link (not that I can get that to work at the moment, but perhaps I just don't understand the weird things Advanced Forum is doing with altering the theme registry).

Anyway, I wonder if it would be a good idea to not have that fake container page and only display a link and another page if the forums are within a proper container. Which is similar to how it is in the core forum module.

In any case, we still need to check if there is an issue for the notices caused by core forum.

alpritt’s picture

Also of related note, advanced forum is implementing hook_menu_alter and doing this:

// Take over forum/%forum_forum page also
  $items['forum/%forum_forum']['page callback'] = 'advanced_forum_page';

Yet it provides an override of the forum_forum_load function (advanced_forum_forum_load()). But that isn't being used here. Not sure what the thinking is behind that (perhaps there should be a comment in the code)? In any case, the notices are replicated in the overridden function too.

troky’s picture

core forum_forum_load() is called at least once from forum_menu_local_tasks_alter in forum.module and I couldn't find proper way to override it. If you find the way, let me know.

RandyT’s picture

I believe this is NOT fixed as I am still seeing the error in new clean install of Drupal 7.

Just posting to reopen.

troky’s picture

What error? Errors on "forum/0" page are core forum issue.

cherokeedude’s picture

I'm receiving this on a fresh install... And only when I enable AF.
I couldn't find a fix for this, did I miss it? Rookie here.

edit: nvm. Sounds like this is a problem with core? Is there a link for this error I can track?

4am’s picture

I turned on AF and everything was fine until I opened the admin control panel, then these errors appear on every page load and every admin page.

Notice: Undefined variable: forum_term in forum_forum_load() (line 764 of /var/www/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in forum_forum_load() (line 764 of /var/www/modules/forum/forum.module).
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$tid in forum_forum_load() (line 769 of /var/www/modules/forum/forum.module).

UPDATE: Clean install, no forum, no problem. Activate Forum...no problem! Add a link to "forum/" in my main menu? Errors. Something to do with linking the forum from the menus? I'm way to much of a n00b to tell you why this happens but that's how I got rid of the error. The Navigation pane still has a link to the forums which works just fine. Weird!

People keep posting on this without setting it active. I just happened to notice it because every once and a while I take an unfiltered look at the queue. Setting it active since people are still having issues, though having an issue per error would really be better than lumping it all into one like this.

Michelle

troky’s picture

This is core forum issue. AF doesn't use forum_forum_load() function.
I don't see any of AF files in above errors...

If it's not an AF issue, feel free to re-close it. I only made it active because 3 people posted on it after it was closed and closed issues are normally hidden from view.

how is it an issue with the core module when the error is with advanced forum and it doesn't exist otherwise?

I just can't reproduce this on 3 different sites.

You are getting above notice because drupal's taxonomy_term_load function doesn't return name of the forum where shadow topic is moved.

Please, don't change issue priority because it won't help you much.

ok we posted a new topic here and provided a patch.

We managed to fix it, but still dont understand why it was happening:

http://drupal.org/node/1270710

ssace’s picture

I have same problem as #35. It is only happening on a few forums when viewing the topic list.

I discovered it only happens when there is a Poll (content type) among the topic list. There is no error as long as there are no Poll's in the forum topic list view. I deleted the poll and error went away for that topic list view.

I looked further into the Polls and found an error when trying to edit a poll. Now I have to dig further into why Polls are giving edit errors: Undefined index: required in field_default_form() (line 75....

As for Advanced Forum displaying the error, not sure if it is because there is a further problem with Polls or if AF just doesn't like Polls in the forum list. (frankly, not sure why polls are showing in the forum list anyway).

I have the advice to close this thread since it contains a lot of different (unsolved) issues and its title is too general to be efficient. Let's open new posts for each issue.
