Right, I'm a product design student and i need a swish and professional 'online portal' for what i do and who i am that will allow me to have the following:

[1] various portfolio of jpg/png's of portfolio... or 'projects' possibly w/ charts and text and diagrams for support of this with design process. depending on access depends on what projects are shown. e.g. everybody can see product design, but only members can see music etc...

[2] ability to style side to that years logo and colours

[3] blog concerning product design w/ comments and spam monitor/protector etc...

[4] area to log in that is hidden/secret. that people can get to that deals specifically with treasurehunts, complete with its own blog and section for downloading jpg, pdf.

[5] can integrate flash into main page if necessary

[6] can have to option for banner adverts / google adsense.

[6] compatible w/ shopping cart if necessary.

[7] form contact section instead of email

[8] 'spash' page for main page

[9] i like the idea of adding modules when needed.

[10] personal links for myself

[11] aggregated newsfeeds from sites i am interested in that only i can see.

[12] etc...

am only in the setting up stages and am browsing around. am currently looking at drupal or xoops.

tell me if drupal would suit this. and if so, why drupal over xoops? can anybody give advice?
thanX

Hello!

I'm answering with **

[1] various portfolio of jpg/png's of portfolio... or 'projects' possibly w/ charts and text and diagrams for support of this with design process. depending on access depends on what projects are shown. e.g. everybody can see product design, but only members can see music etc...

[2] ability to style side to that years logo and colours
**What do you mean?

[3] blog concerning product design w/ comments and spam monitor/protector etc...
**Yes, Drupal has a good blog and comments support. The spam protection can be achieved with the use of the module CAPTCHA (http://drupal.org/project/captcha). Captchas (or visual confirmation) are those srcambled letters that one must type before submiting a comment

[4] area to log in that is hidden/secret.
**Of courser you can. You can configure the block "log in" not to be shown.

that people can get to that deals specifically with treasurehunts,
**Treasurehunts? uhm?

complete with its own blog and section for downloading jpg, pdf.
**Ok, that's all possible, as long as you configure the site correctly

[5] can integrate flash into main page if necessary
**Drupal won't do this for you, but you can insert the proper HTML code to embed a Flash in the webpage without any trouble

[6] can have to option for banner adverts / google adsense.
**There's a module for it. http://drupal.org/project/adsense

[6] compatible w/ shopping cart if necessary.
**There's an ecommerce module. http://drupal.org/project/ecommerce - Not the topmost e-commerce you've seen, but it works

[7] form contact section instead of email
**yes, it comes with the Drupal core. You can set user-to-user or user-to-website contact forms.

[8] 'spash' page for main page
**'splash page', you mean? Use this module: http://drupal.org/project/front

[9] i like the idea of adding modules when needed.
**Yes, that's just great and it works so fine!

[10] personal links for myself
**What do you mean?

[11] aggregated newsfeeds from sites i am interested in that only i can see.
**You mean a Feed Reader? You won't use Drupal to do that! Read them Firefox or IE7 or use any other rss feed reader app.

[12] etc...
**you'll find a module to do this... drupal.org/project/Modules

am only in the setting up stages and am browsing around. am currently looking at drupal or xoops.
**I've never used Xoops, sorry. The only thing I can tell you is that Drupal is older and likely to be more 'mature'. What you do, now? Test Xoops, and Drupal 4.7. If you aren't in a hurry, test also Drupal 5.0 beta 2 that is even better than 4.7.
