Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
When we release the Sector 9.2 branch, we're officially going to end support on the Drupal 8 version (5.0.x). Drupal 8 is also reaching end-of-life very soon.
Drupal core has a new security update for 8.9.x, but there is no guarantee that this will be the last one. VBO 2.x has also been deprecated, so we will need to upgrade to the 3.x branch there at a minimum.

dieuweAt a minimum we need the latest security update for large sites that have dependencies not yet Drupal 9 ready. Sadly this will still be the case for some.

DanielVezaLets push VBO up to 3.13. What do you think?
Besides that looks good, or if you would prefer to keep VBO at 3.4, then go ahead and commit. I'm happy to leave that choice to you on the 8.x branch.

DanielVezaAnd yes - The 8.x branches will be deprecated on the 9.2 branch release.
We may push security updates to the 8.x branches after this on a case by case basis if it is a very significant security release.

dieuweI ended up doing quite a large patch to bump up all the contrib to the latest versions and shorten the jump to a Sector 9 upgrade. Even after we deprecate 5.0.x, there will probably be some sites that stay there for a while due to "reasons". This is probably the final minor module version pass.
I'll do a release and keep this ticket open for any other ongoing support that's required in the coming months, e.g. more security updates. If I encounter any issues testing the above update in the wild then I'll report back here with a patch to address that.

dieuweSector 9.2.0 has been released, so the 5.0.x branch has been marked as unsupported.
That means that any sites still on D8 should upgrade to D9 as soon as possible, and this task is "fixed".
Any Sector D8 sites can still use composer overrides to upgrade specific packages if there is some reason their D9 upgrades have to be delayed.
