While searching for something else i noticed the Drupal\jsonapi_defaults\Controller\EntityResource::getIncludes method has a third parameter $related. This looks like a remnant of an earlier time since the official jsonapi module also does't have this method. So all the calls to parent::getIncludes seem wrong also.
