Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
I just updated from 7.x-1.4 to 7.x-2.1 and received this message:
Update #7201
Deleted obsolete custom variables. Custom variables are now custom dimensions and metrics and you need to manually configure them!
A few issues:
- Looking at a backup of my site, there are no custom variables listed at
admin/config/system/googleanalytics
. Is 'Deleted obsolete custom variables.' just a boilerplate message, or are there settings somewhere else we need to look at? - Before making the upgrade, I looked at release notes for 7.x-2.1, and there is no warning that all of your custom variables will be deleted; please add such a warning so that we can properly prepare for the upgrade!
- It would be very helpful to include an explanation or good link as to what this means and what steps we need to take.

It is not really upgradable... it requires rethinking what you'd like to collect.
