A couple of 6.x versions back I was able to move the gallery album links out of the Navigation menu into their own menu. On the latest version it seems to have reverted back to the same as 5.X, where I can't move it. I liked the new feature and was hoping it was going to be a permanent thing, please bring it back.

The module is a great piece of work, THANKS.

Could you describe the difference between the behavior of your favorite version and the current state of the module? There are still some issues with the new D6 menu system, so its possible that I removed functionality to fix a bug or even unintentional. However, I am not sure I understand what exactly you are asking for ...
Are you talking about functionality of the GalleryMenu module?

Sorry, I will try to be more clear, I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous. I have things I'm good at, but web design is not one of them!

Maybe 2 versions ago of 6.x galley module in the admin/build/menu-customize/navigation I was able to pull my gallery album items out of the navigation menu and place them in a menu "Our photo album" that I created. Now in the latest version those items were pulled back from my custom menu and placed in the nav menu and they don't seem to be movable anymore. Please see attached. I believe (not so sure) this is all revolves around the "Side Bar" settings in admin/settings/gallery

"Move Gallery2 sidebar to Drupal Gallery Navigation block
When selected, the Gallery2 sidebar will be moved into the Drupal "Gallery Navigation" block. This typically allows for a much cleaner embedded gallery and is generally recommended. Note that you will need to enable the Gallery Navigation block."

What I would like is to have the option to move both the side bar and admin block to there own menu. The problem for me is that the albums are now placed in a very busy menu and I would like to give them there own home where they can be easily found.

I over came this in Drupal 5 by creating a new navigation menu and moving everything except the gallery items into it and renaming the menus.

Thanks for your help
John

Edit
I checked and I don't think this has anything to do with the Move Gallery2 sidebar to Drupal Gallery Navigation block . The most frustrating thing is that in admin/build/menu-customize/navigation I can't even reorder the albums.

I think we should clarify a few things first: Gallery sidebar and the Gallery navigation are usual Drupal blocks, such as "Who's online". What means they are not related to the menu(s) at all. So I guess, you are talking about the Gallery album links generated by GalleryMenu module. You are asking for the ability to move the 'Gallery' item and all its subitems around, right?

Originally I planed to give people full control over how/where/... gallery album links are shown. The problem with that approach: If the user creates a new album in G2 (or moves an existing album) we want to reflect that change in the Drupal menu tree as well, not? But that makes sense only, if the given tree structure is maintained in Drupal (based on the actual album structure in G2). And that means we cant allow people to manually alter the tree ...

There are some possible solutions for this:
1. Keep the customized items in the user-defined state/location, but add new items to the default location (maybe add them disabled, so that they do not mess up the menu at the "wrong" location). This approach is feasible for a semi-static G2 album tree and/or when only a few users have rights to manipulate the tree.
2. Do not allow users to customize the items, but provide an option to move the whole gallery menu subtree to a different or separate menu.
3. ???

Any thoughts?

P.S. Also note that there are some issues with url rewrite and the new D6 menu system. I'm currently working to fix those issues, what will includes several changes to GalleryMenu as well. However all the menu link handling can be adjusted independently. But as mentioned above we must think about the mechanism to sync Drupal menu items and G2 album tree first.

You are correct, I am talking about the Gallery album links generated by GalleryMenu module, and I am asking for the ability to move the 'Gallery' item and all its subitems around. The problem is I really don't know what is or is not possible here, my knowledge about how you would write a module zero, but I'm learning something here.

If you were able to keep the customized items in the user-defined state/location and added the new items to the default location would you then have the ability to manually move the new or changed items to the user defined location? That would be a good solution for my application.

Even if you could turn off the gallery items from showing up in the nav menu, I could then create a new menu and manually add links back to the albums I want shown. I am the only one contributing to the web site, and maybe the only one reading it as well, so having functionality for other users is a non issue for me. Others may feel different.

I am even good with being able to move the whole gallery menu to a different or separate menu. Currently it shows up in alphabetical order, which make sense, and if it is in another menu where the items aren't surrounded with off topic links like "My account" for example, the whole gallery menu would read better and be easier to see.

Now I'm off the see if I can get G2Image to work....
Thanks again for your help,
John

Large patch with almost complete overhaul of GalleryMenu committed to 6--1 branch. This allows to customize every aspect of album links now. Could you please get the latest -dev version and try out? Is that what you imagined? I would love to get some feedback here. Thx in advance.

I will download it and let you know tomorrow. Thanks!

Well I couldn't wait, works better than I would have hoped. Not only can I not believe I was able to write in about a problem I was having and have it addressed, it only took a matter of days to make it happen.

Thanks so much,
John Todd

I tested it some more today and it really works well. I added some new albums and sub albums, moved them to there correct position, then deleted them, no worries. This, I my mind, really helps make the integration of these 2 program much more seamless.

I am happy to read that you are happy with my changes ;) Actually I was afraid that making all the link items fully customizable would complicate things, but now it feels really comfortable.

P.S. You should also thank chx for making this possible with the new D6 menu system.

... and I hope you wont hesitate to send another request in the future. I cant promise that it can always be handled in a few days, but I'm always thankful for ideas and feedback. Most people do not give feedback on the module at all (except something works seriously wrong).
