I would like to direct the user to a custom link to verify their account and let them know an action has taken place. As of 7.x-1.x-dev, this module directs the user to the main/front page with now way of letting them know what has happened. Is there a way to designate the verification URL or [user-verification:link]?

IMO, this should be solved with i18n module and some contrib (string translation or so). Have you tried that?
