Currently, the index is updated to the new correct format when one upgrades from any of the 1.x modules to the new 2.x module, however, the views have to be rebuilt. This is a hassle for users.

From my point of view: Upgrading the views could cause problems that were unforeseen by any of us. I would must rather leave your data alone. I may not get all the settings correct that you had before. Though this may be possible. If anyone is willing to take a crack at it, feel free.

Fixed with an update hook in 0071aeb1dbb7b447ba061371223cdfa66f002c88. The challenge here will be when people use features and do the upgrade.
