The Scheduled event_comment interferes with other modules' handling of event_comments because it will apply the event_comment even if it is not a "schedule" event. Moving it inside the if event check should be the right thing to do.

Please note that this is taken from another patch (http://drupal.org/node/1759138) but I wasn't sure the new functionality of that patch was working for me correctly and so I'm just including this to fix this issue separately.
