Changes made:

  • Added zip format as alternative in download and extract documentation.
  • Removed redundant empty lines used to separate sections. The other documentation files in Drupal core use 1 line to separate, not 2.
  • Title of 'Using Clean URLs with IIS' page has changed on drupal.org. Changed "name" of link to reflect this.
  • URL of translation downloads redirects to new URL. Changed to this new URL.
  • Spelling error.
  • Fixed some wrapping issues.
  • Handbook URL redirects to drupal.org/documentation. Changed handbook URL to reflect this change.
Is it called the handbook anymore? Not sure why the path alias was changed from handbook to documentation. If the name handbook is no longer valid, other changes are also necessary, but this patch does not change this.
  • Title of 'Security announcements' page has changed on drupal.org. Changed "name" of link to reflect this.

Yes, we have changed the name Handbook and the URL aliases. We should now use the phrase "Drupal.org on-line documentation" rather than "the Drupal Handbook". And yes, for whatever reason the standard is Drupal.org when referring to d.o in a sentence.

So let's make that change too, if you don't mind? By the way, the cleanup you are doing is appreciated! :)

Sure thing. New patch attached where I have also changed all the instances of "Drupal handbook" with "Drupal.org on-line documentation".

By the way, before I forget it. On drupal.org/documentation, it still refers to the Drupal handbook in the "Help Us Write Documentation" box displayed in the right sidebar.

Thanks! We have an issue open to make that block better in general, which just hasn't been done yet. Thanks for the reminder (I just bumped it up to the top of the doc issue queue -- #995334: Improve the Help with Doc block if you are interested).

Regarding this patch, it all looks great except this seems a bit awkward (says documentation twice, which seems odd):

+- For additional documentation, see the Drupal.org on-line documentation:

Maybe it should say "information" for the first documentation word?... not sure that would be better, since the whole section is "more information"... Maybe it should just say:

- Drupal.org on-line documentation:

How about "See the Drupal.org on-line documentation"?

works for me

Great. Makes it more of a complete sentence, without using the words "information" and "documentation". I guess we could use "instructions", but... I'm not sure.
Anyway, rolling a new patch with "See the Drupal.org on-line documentation:"

Looks fine to me. Thanks!

I'm a bit unsure about "Drupal.org on-line documentation". In the style guide it says to use online instead of on-line. Should the style be updated?

yep, no dash in "Online documentation" pls (as per style guide guidelines http://drupal.org/node/338208#relatedwords and the actual page title http://drupal.org/node/338208). thx!

Done. Attached patch has "Drupal.org online documentation" instead of "Drupal.org on-line documentation."

Thanks for clearing that up arianek! Patch looks good now.

I committed #1029346: INSTALL.txt and UPGRADE.txt should mention that you can download Drupal as a .zip file also earlier today before I found this patch. It might clash with this patch. Haven't had time yet to figure that out yet so just adding a note for now.

I will make a new patch based on the new HEAD. Give me 15 minutes :)

Done. Mise à jour.
