I have a neglected out of date site with lots of content. It's drupal core 5.7 and I would like to upgrade it to at least Drupal 7, maybe Drupal 8. Most of the modules used are not supported.

What is the best way of going about upgrading this site?

Thank you for your help.

rebuild the site in Drupal 8. Else you need to upgrade to Drupal 6 (no longer supported), then Drupal 7, and then migrate to Drupal 8. This is not something for the faint of heart.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I second the suggestion to set up an empty Drupal 8 (or 9) site and rebuild the legacy site using that as the foundation. The upgrade + migrate path is, IMHO, a source of endless frustration.
