Hello Drupal community !

I've just installed D8 avec somes years using D7.

First step : change the site name.
I've changed site name in /admin/config/system/site-information

But a default name ( => here: "Drupal" ) is always displayed.

"Drupal" is displayed when I call "@site" or "@s". Any tips ? Any help ?
Thank you,

Hello,
I had the same problem, using Drupal 8.2.6 when I decided to have a french interface.
since I downloaded fr.po, when I'm going on a page type as localhost/myWebsite/fr, title page & site name are "Drupal", and when I'm going on a page type as localhost/myWebsite, title page & site name become "MyWebsite".
I don't know if I forget something or if it's a "bug".
Thanks in advance of any help

Same for me, I'm french and using only french translation (uninstalled english translation).

It's a problem with translation module, or the french version ? Anyone can try in a different language and tell us more ?

ClRette’s picture

I add something I noticed. When I tried to configure a block on the home page, "page not found". It is the particle 'en/' or 'fr/' in the URL that causes this... because when you remove it, it works fine.
I saw some of similar pb.
node 2823359, node 2822199... maybe the second one purpose an issue... but I don't know if it's the good way to do it...?

nothinghere’s picture

I've deleted the particle 'en/' or 'fr/' in /admin/config/regional/language/detection
=> Detect by URL is disabled. I've keep "selected language".

Still have this bug, what should I do ?

ClRette’s picture

Sorry I just want to say when you remove it manually directly in the url you will find your site name, isn't it ?
Maybe you can check the second link I give...? I think there is something to search around prefix provided for languages in URL detection parameters...

No, it doesn't get back :(

I've change the site name again: nothing change.
I've get back english language and URL detection: nothing change. But still here ...

I am really a beginner with drupal (and in English as you see). I open the question on drupalfr too.
I saw a topic where people say to change it in settings.php:

# $ config ['system.site'] ['name'] = 'My Drupal site';

You need to uncomment, but that doesn't work for me: the page title remains wrong (Welcome to Drupal | Drupal)

Personaly I am going to work with an interface in English at the moment, I see no other solution : /

nothinghere’s picture

When I change to :
$ config ['system.site'] ['name'] = 'My Test site';

It works !
Works for page title too.

But I have just "Selected language" options in admin/config/regional/language/detection/
and I have "Site's default language (English)" selected in admin/config/regional/language/detection/selected
=> URL (Language from the URL (Path prefix or domain).) is unchecked.

Second test :
admin/config/regional/language
Choose "French" as "default".
It display "My Drupal site" => it works.

Thirth test :
Delete engilsh in admin/config/regional/language
"French" is the last language and it's default.
It display "My Drupal site" => it works.

It seem to work, but I've commentend $ config ['system.site'] ['name'] = 'My Test site'; it back.
I've try to change it again in admin/config/system/site-information.
This page doesn't seem to work at all.

So I modified my setting file again to something definitive, like : $ config ['system.site'] ['name'] = 'My website name'; and ... It doesn't work anymore !

Really crazy ...

ClRette’s picture

Isn't it a cache story ?
In the Manage administrative menu, navigate to Configuration > Development > Performance (admin/config/development/performance).
Click Clear all caches to try...?

nothinghere’s picture

I do "drush cc all" with command line every time :)

Very strange, I'm gonna re-install and test again. I'll post result here.

ClRette’s picture

It works for me.
In fact, the answer is in the Drupal documentation...
"To translate the site name, navigate in the Manage administrative menu to Configuration > System > Site information > Translate system information (admin/config/system/site-information/translate)."
If you follow all the steps which he abords, you reach the expected result.
Since : the 10.1 documentation until 10.5 last part.
I think the first good habit is to search in the Drupal's documentation (that explains no response is given in open subjects).

Enjoy :)

Same issue here, seems related with translation. Assume I have a site in one language different from English. I can install a new language and set my language as Default. I don't need content translation or language detection.
Just to be more detailed, in my case I installed the language after the standard installation in English.

In this situation you don't have the panel to translate the configuration interface as suggested in #12 , but changing the configuration in settings.php as suggested above worked for me. (thank you for the tip)

I think this behaviour is related with the new entity translation system in drupal8, which is very promising for multilingual sites. Anyway I think this should be considered a bug or a feature regression because it would be very common having one default language different from English. In d7 you can do this just by changing the Site Name in the global configuration page.

Don't know if I'm missing something cause I'm new to d8

It's probably a bug(?), temporary solution:
1) Install core module "Configuration Translation".
2) Go to "Basic site setting" (Administration->Configuration->System)
3) Click "Translate system information" tab .
4) Click "Add" or "Edit" button and set site name.

Since : the 10.1 documentation until 10.5 last part.

You will have 4 modules to install, not juste one. I'm a newbie, but if you follow the steps, normally as me you can resolve it.

timoratd’s picture

definitely a bug, if your site's default language is not english, the english translation of your site name will be updated to 'Drupal' sooner or later by an unknown force, I have updated it tons of times, but it keeps changing back to 'Drupal'.

Chris7419’s picture

I think it is a bug too!! If someone send me a messag from the contact form the sender is Drupal.
To solve the problem is uncomment line 636 in settings.php ($config['system.site']['name'] = 'My Drupal site';)

Cheers

pandelon’s picture

It is definitely a bug!

My site default language is not English and my sitename switch back time to time "Drupal". I changed it several times, and not know when will change again back.
I user Drupal 8.3.1 now

Plese correct it!

marco.falconi’s picture

Hello,
i'm having the same issue with Drupal 8.3.2. I temporary solved editing the settings.php file and editing the parameter

$config['system.site']['name'] = 'My site name...';

Thanks

bildesbil’s picture

Hello
I had the same problem but just enable the configuration translate module and then go to change the name in the configuration part of the site to the translate tab
I hope this helps!

tuthanh’s picture

First, you need to use Configuration Translation to translate the site name to another language.

Second, in my case, I did that but it still does not work. I followed the guide here: https://drupal.stackexchange.com/questions/221430/multilingual-site-title . So I use PHPMyAdmin, browse the 'config' table and I found two records:

language.vi system.name
language.en system.name

I deleted the language.vi system.name and then redo the configuration translation. Now it works.

nbetoven’s picture

In my case fount in 'cinfig' table three records
1. system.site
2. language.el system.site
3. language.en systme.site

l delete languge.el system.site and everything works fine
My site uses two languages Greeek (el) English (en)
Thanks for the solution

anissabelkheir’s picture

Same problem for me.
I enabled the metatag module and added mySiteName instead of the [site:name] in global settings (and to be sure, did the same, in content and frontpage). Clear Cache.
It works fine for me.

ckaotik’s picture

I suspect this happens when Drupal is initially installed with a language that is not en. If anyone is interested, running this Code might help: \Drupal::languageManager()->getLanguageConfigOverrideStorage('de')->delete('system.site');, just replace de with your installation language. Afterwards you might have to update the configuration under /admin/config/system/site-information, so write down those values beforehand :)

dunebl’s picture

Thank you ckaotik, this is clearly the correct answer!!!

nothinghere’s picture

Hmm, where should I run this code ? I don't think it's in my ssh console... :p
How to run it ?

dunebl’s picture

You can add it anywhere in a block of PHP code which is running when you see a page. (For example in a preprocess function)
After the code is executed once, you can remove this line of code.
OR
You can also install the devel module. By this, you should get the development menu (available trough the drupal logo on the left if you have the admin_tool module). Then go to "Development > execute PHP Code". Paste this line of code and execute it.

nothinghere’s picture

Your "patch" work great ! I've tested it on 3 different website where I had this bug.

Now, anyone know how to fix this bug in next Drupal 8 release ?

kari.kaariainen’s picture

I suspect this happens when Drupal is initially installed with a language that is not en

Actually, this happens even when Drupal is initially installed in English.

lithiumlab’s picture

I've installed using english. But then moved to spanish as default language.
It's been very dificult to get rid of the "Drupal" everywhere. What's the final recommended solution?
Using 8.4 still the issue persists.

kari.kaariainen’s picture

Editing the settings.php file worked for me.

$config['system.site']['name'] = 'My site name...';
stenux’s picture

Thanks ckaotik for this solution, worked perfectly after installing all the extra modules. Thanks!

Christophe Bourgois’s picture

Thanks ckaotic, your solution is working for me !

devil2005’s picture

Still the bug in 8.3.5, i will try the php code :)

mrhappymac’s picture

Did anyone enable the
Configuration Translation extension? "Provides a translation interface for configuration" it's under Multilingual. gives you an extra "translate tab" in Home >Administration>Configuration>basic site settings.
It worked for me using base language english and second language Japanese.

devil2005’s picture

Activated for me yes. But still buggy

puidu’s picture

I had the same issue. I solved manually editing the yml file inside folder config/sync/language//system.site.yml and then importing with 'drush cim'. that solved the issue

bessonweb’s picture

Hello,

For me, i have just to click on "Translate system informations" on the top of page for translate in all languages the name of the site.

After submit theyse modifications that is good !

Hope help you !

tiikeri’s picture

Recently updated drupal core from 8.3.7 to 3.4.0 in a multilanguage site (3 languese, default is NOT english). The bug persisted in both versions. the module config_translation was enabled and basic settings changed properly.

Running the ckaotic script above solved the issue here

smurfxx’s picture

This solved my issue but the bug still persist on fresh installations

jwilson3’s picture

In my case I was able to resolve this modifying configuration files and using standard Drupal configuration sync with drush cim.

I have Spanish as the primary language (es) and English as the secondary language, but somehow at some point the value "Drupal" got saved to config/sync/language/es/system.site.yml !   I believe this file shouldn't even be present, because the default file of config/sync/system.site.yml has the correct Spanish site title, and has a value of langcode: es however instead of deleting the file, I just changed the value in that file to coincide with the Spanish site title in the default yml, and ran drush cim.  This solved it for me.

blackiyto’s picture

Same for me, I'm french and using only french translation
