I get a lot of content from writers using Microsoft Word and the embedded characters create problems with layout consistency when posting onto the website.

Options with WYSIWYG editors such as "Paste from Word" or "Paste from Text" do not filter out and replace unicode characters.

Some of the writing is very long, and having to manually scan and replace characters just creates more work... made more annoying and time consuming since the writers can barely figure out how to use a WYSIWYG editor to begin with.

I've found using http://textcleaner.lutesonline.com/ makes life a lot easier, but I'd like to find a solution for within Drupal.

Advice and recommended solutions are appreciated.

I haven't tested but there are the following: https://www.drupal.org/project/pasteformat & https://www.drupal.org/project/htmLawed & https://www.drupal.org/project/sanitizable all of which state they provide sanitation.
