Hi,
I am relatively new to drupal
I have created a site with a number of content types
I was able to add to all those types from the admin user (permissions were set.
I had some type fo problem ?? don't have an accurate concise desriptionof all events
and found that I could not all some dontent types - checked and reset permissions for the conten type (it had been disabled)
I am still unable to see the content type in the add content od tha admin user ... what am I doing wrong?

try accessing the path directly @ node/add/YOUR-CONTENT-TYPE.
If you can, then followup by checking the menu items in administer -> menus.
Thanks for th e ideas
try accessing the path directly @ node/add/YOUR-CONTENT-TYPE.
Brings me to the add content page that has links to some not all content types
If you can, then followup by checking the menu items in administer -> menus.
The content types are defined and I can access edit the defenitions etc....
Also the permissions are set to create and edit all content types
I do have several custom types ...
This was working and there was some issue where the ui froze?
Follouwing this ui freeze - the content types were not accessible for add - I can edit existing instances - permissions are ser correctly.
Any other Things to try ... :>

none of that has anything to do with menus.
what displays on node/add is controlled by the menu.module.
Please check the navigation menu in administer -> menus and inspect the create content children.
ahhha ...
being a newbie ....
I did not know ---- about this one level
I appreciate the patience this is resolved :> Thanks for the education :> I owe ou one.
Well done
I am wondering how these permissions might have been unset .... does this type of behaviour occur frequently?
(hung ui and permissions reset - install has a number of modules added but nothing really unusual .and all non beta .....)

they aren't permissions. How the menu items were disabled in your install I've no idea. I've never witnessed menu items become disabled without human interaction on any of my sites over the 7 years I've been working with Drupal.
