Hi there,
I am hoping someone can help... I have a Drupal localhost installation using the Acquia Dev Desktop. For some reason, using phpMyAdmin I changed the password for the "drupaluser" user and it all went through OK. However, when I shut down the Dev desktop and restarted it I couldn't log into my site.
From the Dev Desktop if I click "go to my site" I get the error "MySQL Error: Access denied for user root@localhost (using password: NO).
If I click the "manage my database" link I get the error: "#1045 - Access denied for user 'drupaluser'@'localhost' (using password: NO)"
I have tried changing the password in the setting.php file where I have something like:
$db_url = 'mysql://pubdrink_drpl1:[pass]@localhost/pubdrink_drpl1';
Note that before I changed the password, no password existed and in the above line for $db_url there were a load of random letters/symbols where the password is now.
Can anyone help? I can't log in to my Drupal site at all, if I go to the link manually I get the "Drupal site of off-line" message.
Thanks in advance,
Richard

note, the random symbols were likely the password, as a random character generator was likely used to generate a strong password.
it's also worthy to note that you should double check that the password in settings.php was actually changed. You don't mention having to change the permissions on the file to edit it, and this is a protected file.
Hi, thanks for the quick
Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
I made a copy of the original settings file before I made any changes and have reverted back to this with no success. Should I revert back to that file and be adding the new password somewhere else? Like I said, it wasn't the root user password that I changed, it was for the "drupaluser" user.
I have unticked the file to be not read only now, which it was anyway before I changed the password in phpMyAdmin - should I try reprotecting it?

you are going to need to explain the steps you took to change the password the very first time.
according to $db_url your database user isn't root and isn't drupaluser either. its
pubdrink_drpl1you may be better off trying to get aid from the acquia support channels where users are more familiar with it. I don't use it.
changing the password back in settings.php would do little unless you can also change the password for the DB user.
Hi, I installed Drupal
Hi,
I installed Drupal through Acquia and from then made no changes to the settings.php file at all.
The other day, I created a password for the "drupaluser" user in phpMyAdmin (it didn't have a password before) and that went through OK. I didn't change any local files such as settings.php or the MySQL my.cnf.
I restarted Acquia and got the error messages detailed in my first post. I have tried multiple combinations of usernames and passwords in the settings.php file without any luck. Your comment about ensuring the setting.php file is updated is valid, as I had some problems with the Authcache module where you have to edit the settings.php file, which I did, yet the module was claiming I still had not got the required code in there. How would I know if that file is succesfully updated and being used by Drupal - are there any tests I can do?
Do I need to add the newly created password to the MySQL my.cnf file at all now?
Regards,
Richard
Yes, you should
add the newly created password to the MySQL my.cnf file
[client]
port=33066
user=drupaluser
password=[new password]
Had a similar problem
In phpmyadmin, I changed the password for root, and I got the error "Access denied for user root@localhost (using password: NO)". The "password: NO" part, in this case, doesn't mean that the password is "NO". It means that the user was set to have NO password. So I clicked "edit privileges" for the root user, and then set it to have no password. This fixed my problem.
