I'm also looking for information on using Drupal instead of Wordpress and expecting that that will lead to migrating clients from WP to Drupal.

So far I'm not yet convinced that Drupal is the best solution...

'a best' solution depends on the problem being solved. Very rarely is there one best solution to every problem.

You can look at http://drupal.org/project/wordpress_migrate and http://drupal.org/node/1593370 if you want to to convert wordpress to drupal.

Good luck!

To add further, I've also got hold of https://drupal.org/project/wp_migrate, this should help you go about with a smooth migration.

Also, I'd strongly advice you to take a full backup of your server before initiating the migration process. Do make sure that you have a fresh copy of it placed at a safe location. It usually comes in really handy if things go off-track.

In some months Drupal 6 (D6) will die, when drupal 8.0 (D8) gets released.

So a new website should use drupal 7 and should not be started using D6. At the moment don't use drupal 8 for a live website, it is in development.

But WP Migrate has only a D6-version. This is, why my tip is and was to use wordpress_migrate. This has a new User Interface (UI), more infos you will find on https://drupal.org/node/2002064.

If the Wordpress migration tools are only available for D6, this would mean two operations are needed. First, to D6 and then another to D7. Keep in mind there are migration scripts available for some modules so as to convert the database records correctly. These are found within those modules themselves and they should be enabled and run after you've got the site running in D7. They only need to be run the one time, so you can disable them after that point (the migration script, not the other aspects of the module itself!).
Not being sure what all is found in the current site, this may not be a concern. However I thought it worth a mention in case you get stuck! Good luck!
