Would it be possible to include a description of each module in the download page. Currently you have to click on the Readme link; which in too many cases is either broken or the contents are not very helpful.

I don't think we can afford the space to describe every module on the same page. The download page is already pretty big ... there is a request submitted for not including broken links. as for 'not helpful' README files, you are welcoe to submit better ones to the Maintainer or to the drupal-support mailing list.
